For today’s post I’d like to give you a peak into what a day in my life looks like. As most of you already know I’m a high school broadcast journalism teacher. I also refer to myself as the media teacher. It’s easier to say. If you’re reading my side-bar or my about me page you’ll see that it says that I’m in college. I’m not anymore. This is my life now:
5:30-5:45 am: Alarm goes off. I wake up. Grab my phone and scroll through Instagram and Twitter.
6:00 am: Hop in the Shower.
6:20 am: Devotional/Study Bible/Reading or Blogging with coffee. Listen to my Indie music.
7:00 am: Cook some scrambled eggs with spinach and sausage. Drink my coffee out of my foxy fox cup.
7:10 am: “Oh crap I need to get ready.” Do my makeup. Tame my hair. Put on real clothes.
7:45 am: Rush out the door and drive to school.
8:00-8:30 am: At school making sure I’m ready for the day. Usually working on lesson planning or attending meetings.
8:40-10:06 am: Film/Video class watching Moonrise Kingdom. In this class we watch films and analyze them.
10:13-11:34 am: Intermediate media class working on Short Story video project. Mostly freshman-sophomores in this class. I check out video equipment and monitor groups editing in the editing bay.
11:44-12:16 pm: Lunch. Hang out with my Bulldawg Broadcast students. Watch movie trailers or video tricks on YouTube. Sometimes we’ll get out equipment and play with it like the picture below.
12:26-2:02 pm: Bulldawg Broadcast class. These are the top dogs in the media program who produce a weekly show that the student body watches every Thursday. During class students are independently working on their part on the show. Here’s one of their past shows to get a glimpse of what we do:
2:09-3:30 pm: Media Literacy class. This is my intro class that is beginning to learn video production and editing. They are working in small groups on a silent film project. I check out video cameras and assist small groups editing.
3:30 pm: School is out!
3:30-5:00 pm: 3 days a week I go to CrossFit. Other days I’ll go home and run or do yoga. My house is across town from school so I typically stay at school and work until 5. I work on lesson planning, organizing, and helping my Bulldawg Broadcast students who stay after school.
5:30-7:00 pm: Go to CrossFit! I’m doing competitor workouts and they typically take over an hour to an hour and a half.
7:10 8:00 pm: Go home. My sister usually cooks dinner, so I’ll eat dinner and then wash all the dishes.
8:10-10:00 pm: Catch up on blog reading. Prepare blog posts. Random things to be done at home.
10:00 pm: In bed reading or still blogging or on social media.
10:30-11:00 pm: Try to go to sleep.
Wake up the next day and do it all over again! So there’s a glimpse into what my life looks like during the week.
